Bayard Rustin

Bayard Rustin organized the massive march of 1963. He had a list of 10 demands for change and the largest non-violent protest ever in the U.S.A. He was like a hidden Icon, and his sexual preference denied him credit for his hard work. Until today, when President Obama honors Ballard Rustin with a Medal of Freedom in 2014.
During his childhood he had a very loving and respectful familly. Bayard was as rightious man with principles of equality. He belived in his  dream that everyone should be treated equal. Infact he joined non-violent  associations when he was a young man, and that's were he became inspired to continue on in the equal-rights movement. He traveled to India to gain knowledge on non-violent techniques from Gandhis disciples.
Later when convicted of homosexual acts he was sentence to a harsh prison term. It wasn't because he hurt anyone but because he was gay. He didn't deserve the punishment and he kept his head high. During his prison term he exercised his non-violent techniques. He also ended up in jail for refusing to give his seat to a white-man, and for refusing to go World War-2. During this time period people of different color were not treated equaly, and received severe punishment during their prison term. But Bayard manage to maintain in peace.
The hiden Icon he seemed to be in this story. Leading  a massive march for the equal rights movement, and even became hidden by his own people because of his sexual orientation. He might not have acomplished all his dreams but thanks to him we live in equallity. A hero to those of us who are of different color, and  a man who devoted a lifetime to a non-violent movement. He had a dream that everyone would be treated equally and so it is.
